Hurricanes at Bruins | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Bruins -150 Favorites

The Bruins enter the NHL’s Eastern Conference final as favorites to hoist the Stanley Cup, and with good reason. They tied for the second-highest number of points during the regular season with 107 and will have home ice the rest of the way as they chase a seventh Cup.

Boston will be without a key member in Game 1 though, with second-year defenseman Charlie McAvoy suspended for an illegal check that many thought should have resulted in a major penalty in Game 6 against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday. Columbus was still blanked 3-0 to close out that second-round series despite closing as a -130 home favorite.

The Blue Jackets were outscored 11-4 in losing the last three games to the Bruins after taking an early 2-1 series lead. The UNDER went 5-1 in the series.

Meanwhile, the Hurricanes swept the New York Islanders 4-0 in the second round and will be a little more rested, which was needed considering they were dealing with some injuries. Carolina goaltender Petr Mrazek (groin) was a full participant in Monday’s practice after leaving Game 2 and being replaced by Curtis McElhinney for the rest of the series. Boston’s Tuukka Rask is the favorite to win the Conn Smythe Trophy right now due to his impressive work between the pipes versus Columbus.

The Bruins definitely have the edge in net, and the home-ice advantage may be the difference in this series since the Hurricanes are the only team that has not lost in their own building this postseason. Carolina has gone 3-3 on the road in the playoffs, winning three straight since losing the first three away from home to the Washington Capitals in the first round.

The Hurricanes have also seen the OVER go 5-2 in their last seven games, going 6-1 during that stretch after winning six in a row. However, Boston is 5-1 in the past six meetings with Carolina, according to the OddsShark NHL Database, with the OVER going 6-1 in the previous seven dating back to 2017.
