Blues at Sharks | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Sharks -135 Favorites

The Sharks will go for a 2-0 lead in the Western Conference final on Monday following a 6-3 win in Game 1 as -130 home favorites on Saturday.

San Jose jumped out to a 2-1 lead at the end of the first period and more than doubled that by the end of the second, taking a 5-2 advantage into the third en route to the easy victory. St. Louis gave the game away early with careless penalties after playing the entire Game 7 of the previous series – which was decided in double overtime – without committing one.

Joe Pavelski’s power-play goal at the 11:24 mark of the first gave the Sharks a 2-1 edge, and they cruised from there. Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington faced them for the first time in his career and struggled throughout, something he will need to correct in order to make this a more competitive series. The rookie was outstanding against the Dallas Stars in the second round, but the experience of San Jose veteran counterpart Martin Jones proved to be extremely valuable.

Whether or not that will continue in Game 2 remains to be seen, although St. Louis definitely needs to keep this matchup much lower scoring in order to get back into it. The Blues remain 8-2 in their last 10 games when the total goes UNDER while the Sharks are 4-2 in their previous six when it ends up OVER compared to 4-6 in their past 10 that finish UNDER.

The OVER cashed easily in the series opener, ending a 7-0-2 UNDER run in the previous nine games between the teams.

The home team has also won six straight meetings, and San Jose is 5-1 in its last six games at the SAP Center overall as well. Meanwhile, St. Louis lost for just the second time on the road this postseason in Game 1 and has not dropped consecutive games away from home since March 29, according to the OddsShark NHL Database.
