Stars vs Golden Knights | OddsShark Matchup Report

Opening NHL Odds: Golden Knights -169 Favorites

Two teams that managed to advance to the Western Conference Final despite blowing 3-1 series leads will meet in Game 1 on Sunday when the favored Golden Knights battle the Stars. Vegas and Dallas both showed some weaknesses against their previous opponents, but each also showed resilience and ultimately proved they were the better teams over the course of seven games.

For the Golden Knights, they came alive midway through the third period of their Game 7 versus the Vancouver Canucks on Friday, with defenseman Shea Theodore coming through with the game-winning goal en route to a 3-0 victory that also included two empty-netters. Vegas closed as a -225 favorite and saw the UNDER cash for the third straight time in the series. Earlier in the day, the Stars edged the Colorado Avalanche 5-4 in overtime of their Game 7, and they were underdogs in all seven games. That will most likely be the case for Dallas against Vegas in this series, although that underdog mentality has certainly served the team well this postseason.

The goaltenders figure to play a huge role too, even though neither starter was in that position at the beginning of the season. Anton Khudobin has stepped in nicely for the Stars as a replacement for Ben Bishop while Robin Lehner (three shutouts in four wins last series) has done the same for the Golden Knights since arriving in a trade deadline deal. That said, Vegas is 7-2 all-time against Dallas, with the UNDER going 5-3-1 in the nine meetings. Both teams are great offensively, but it would not be surprising to see the goalies steal the show in a lower-scoring series opener. It is also worth noting that the Golden Knights will be without Ryan Reaves due to a one-game suspension for a hit to the head in Game 7.
