DailyFaceoff/Corsica NHL Bets (February 20th)

The Corsica NHL betting predictions looks to bounce-back from a disappointing performance on Tuesday. Corsica went all on in the Flyers and Lightning, selecting the under as the night’s most valuable play and Philly covering a +1.5-goal spread as the most probable. Even without Brayden Point and Victor Hedman, Tampa’s gaudy offensive totals refused to regress. They jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and coasted to a 5-2 victory. An empty-netter from Ryan McDonagh ended the game’s bid at finishing under the 6.5-goal mark.

Looking to redeem themselves, Corsica takes aim at Wednesday’s four-game slate. I’ve highlighted their most valuable and probable bets below. You can find predictions for all of tonight’s games here. Good luck!

Highest Value

Blackhawks @ Red Wings – Over/Under | Under 6.5 (

Apparently unphased from Monday night’s debacle, Corsica once again loves the under for the Blackhawks game. Chicago’s power-play has been ridiculous since the turn of the new year. That combined with their extremely undisciplined play at 5v5 normally results in high-scoring affairs. No team in the NHL surrenders more scoring chances than Chicago, but there is reason to believe tonight’s game could be different. Aside from their top line, Detroit struggles to generate quality chances at even strength. The Red Wings have the benefit of last change, so they can theoretically control the pace of the game. The Dylan Larkin line is excellent at both ends of the ice, averaging 66 shot attempts per 60 while surrendering just 52. They should have no problem slowing down the top-six of the Blackhawks.

Detroit may also have the answer for the Hawks’ lethal power-play. The Red Wings have killed 82.8% of their penalties over the last 30 days, the 10th-best rate in the league over that span. Much of their shorthanded success can be attributed to goaltender Jimmy Howard. The 13-year vet owns an impressive .913 SV% on the year. He’s allowed more than three goals only three times in his last 14 appearances. He is expected to get the nod tonight and is Detroit’s best bet for maintaining Chicago’s red-hot offense. Corsica gives this bet a likelihood 63.63%, giving it incredible value at +126.

Highest Probability

Jets @ Avalanche – Spread | WPG +1.5 (-258)

You’re not getting a lot of value out of this bet, but you won’t find a safer play on tonight’s slate. Desperate for a spark, the Avalanche put their lines through a blender ahead of Monday’s game against the Golden Knights. The dynamic trio of Gabriel Landeskog, Nathan MacKinnon, and Mikko Rantanen was fractured and evenly-distributed across Colorado’s top-nine. The results left a lot to be desired, but the Avs were bailed out by an incredible performance from Semyon Varlamov. Varlamov stopped all 40 shots he faced on route to the 25th shutout of his career.

Naturally, Mackinnon, Landeskog, and Rantanen have all seen a dip in production when playing apart from one another over the last two seasons. Colorado does not have the depth necessary down the middle of their lineup for this shakeup to make sense. Tyson Jost and Carl Soderberg are serviceable players, but they aren’t competent facilitators for the likes of Landeskog and Rantanen. The Avalanche’s new-look top-nine should be exposed by the Jets tonight.

The oddsmakers are quite obviously skewed by Colorado’s 4-1 victory in Winnipeg last Thursday. Funny enough, the win was driven by a dominant performance from Colorado’s top line. Colorado controlled 63.64% of the shot attempts with Landeskog, Rantanen, and MacKinnon on the ice. Winnipeg was able to feast on the second and third lines of the Avs but couldn’t solve Varlamov. Without having to worry about maintaining one dominant line, Winnipeg should hold a significant advantage at 5v5 tonight. Corsica gives the Jets a 75.13% chance of covering the +1.5-goal spread.
