Avalanche @ Maple Leafs – Over/Under | Under 6.5 (+115)
It’s easy to look at the star power on either side of this game and expect a high-scoring affair. The Maple Leafs’ top-nine is as loaded as any team’s in the NHL, and the Avalanche are led by the best line in hockey. Maple Leafs head coach Mike Babcock stated earlier today he plans on matching the John Tavares line against Colorado’s first line. Its unlikely both sides generate their normal rate of offense in head-to-head matchup, lending some credence to the under.
The Avalanche’s mighty power-play isn’t the best bet to convert tonight, either. The Maple Leafs kill penalties at a respectable rate of 80.5% and take the fewest minor penalties in the league. On top of all that, Frederik Andersen is set to make his return in goal for the Maple Leafs tonight. Andersen hasn’t played since December 22nd due to a groin injury and an illness. He owns a .923 SV% on the season and is the Maple Leafs’ best chance to shutdown the Mackinnon line. Assuming a half-decent performance from Semyon Varlamov, this game is a great bet to hit the under. Corsica gives this game a 62.83% chance of finishing with less than 6.5 goals.

Wild @Flyers – Spread | PHI +1.5 (-253)
According to Corsica, with a 75.8% chance of coming to fruition, the Flyers beating a +1.5-goal spread against the Wild is by far the most probable bet on tonight’s slate. Corsica actually likes the Flyers to win this game outright, giving them a slight edge at 52.6%. At the very least, this game should be a lot tighter at 5v5 than the oddsmakers give it credit for. The Flyers have the depth necessary to go blow for blow with Minnesota’s top nine. Claude Giroux, James van Reimsdyk, and Travis Konecny are starting to come into form on Philadelphia’s top line. They should be able to handle some tougher minutes against the Wild’s top-six. Sean Couturier and Jakub Voracek make for a formidable duo on line two. They are an effective shutdown line and are still managing 30 scoring chances per 60.
Finally, the Flyers’ third line of Nolan Patrick, Scott Laughton, and Wayne Simmonds is nothing to scoff at. They should be able to take advantage of some lighter minutes against the bottom-six of the Wild. And if you can believe it, the Flyers aren’t facing a losing matchup in goal. Carter Hart has really come on of late and has his SV% up to .916 on the season. Uncharacteristically, Devan Dubnyk has struggled with consistency this season. His even-strength SV% sits at a lowly .908 on the year, and he’s fresh off a five-goal beating at the hands of the Red Wings on Saturday.
