Hurricanes @ Flames – Over/Under | Under 6.5 (-105)

It’s hard to sell the under for any game featuring the Flames, but I’ll do my best. As most of you know, there aren’t many better teams at even strength than the Carolina Hurricanes. Their top-nine is full of puck-dominant skaters that can pin opponents in their own end for shifts at a time. Where Carolina struggles is converting that puck-possession and those scoring chances into goals, which bodes well for the under tonight.

If the Hurricanes are true to form, the cyclical and suppressive nature of their offense will force Calgary’s dynamic group of forwards to spend the majority of the night in their own end. The Flames’ top line won’t see anywhere near the amount of high-danger chances they’re used to, and Carolina will struggle to make good on their puck possession against David Rittich. A mediocre performance from Petr Mrazek is all this game will need to hit the under. Corsica gives it a probability of 61.38%.

Islanders @ Blackhawks – Spread | CHI +1.5 (-211)

According to Corsica, with a likelihood of 71.47%, you won’t find a safer bet than this on tonight’s slate. Corsica tends to pick on the Islanders, so it’s no surprise to see them all in on Chicago tonight. The Isles might be the most fraudulent team in the NHL right now. They’ve been out-chanced and out-possessed at even strength all season, but have been bailed out by the league’s best PDO (1.029). Robin Lehner and Thomas Greiss have combined to give the Islanders a ridiculous .935 SV% at 5v5. New York would be foolish to think they can rely on that kind of goaltending all season long. They should come back down to Earth sooner than later. Corsica will continue to go after them until the oddsmakers adjust accordingly.

Lehner and the Islanders will have to deal with the hottest power-play in the NHL tonight. Chicago has converted on an absurd 40.0% of their power-play opportunities since the Christmas break. Jeremy Colliton has unlocked the potential of the Blackhawks’ star-studded power-play. The Islanders’ lackluster penalty-kill could be exposed by Patrick Kane and company tonight. Chicago should have no problem keeping this one close, assuming Cam Ward can turn in a respectable performance in goal.
