Dan Hamhuis and Ryan Parent Swap Jerseys

Today, the Philadelphia Flyers traded for soon-to-be UFA defenseman Dan Hamhuis in an attempt to add him to their defensive corps.  He seems to want to sign with the team and play with the Eastern Conference champion Flyers.  At this point we do not know where he will play exactly but he performed well with Kimmo Timonen in the past.

Ryan Parent will go to the Predators for his first real tour. Although many knew him as a Predator, he never actually laced up his skates for the team.  Like Hamhuis, he will be indefinitely stuck behind Ryan Suter and Shea Weber as they look to hold the top two spots for the foreseeable future.  He carries a first round pick pedigree and helped Team Canada win the Gold during the WJHC forming a shutdown unit with Marc Staal.  Parent used to be a blue chipper but injuries and inconsistency riddled him.  At 23 he still looks like a wildcard, but after registering only three points last season he holds a limited offensive ceiling or potential.

Moving to the East could reap benefits for Hamhuis, especially if he finds powerplay time and minutes alongside Timonen or Chris Pronger.  Of course, talks could still hit a snag with the 27-year-old hitting the free agent market meaning the Flyers moved Parent for a 7th round pick.
