The New Jersey Devils announced Tuesday that they’ve invited @Jimmy Vesey, @Mark Jankowski, and @Tyler Wotherspoon to training camp on professional tryout contracts.

Vesey was once a highly-touted prospect out of Harvard. He started off his career with 16-, 17-, and 17-goal seasons with the New York Rangers but his production has fallen since. Most recently, he split the 2021 season between the Maple Leafs and Canucks, scoring five goals and 10 points over 50 games.

Jankowski is a former first-round pick of the Calgary Flames. He appeared to have found a groove as a quality third-line centre, scoring 17 and 14 goals for the Flames in 2017-18 and 2018-19, but, like with Vesey, his production has declined over the past couple of years. In 2021, Jankowski scored four goals and 11 points over 45 games with the Penguins.

Finally, there’s Wotherspoon, another former draft pick of the Flames. The big defender has appeared in 30 NHL games over four seasons with the Flames but hasn’t been in the big leagues since 2016-17. He’s spent his last four seasons in the AHL, playing with the Stockton Heat, San Antonio Rampage, and Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

None of these players currently have contracts but they can suit up for the Devils during their pre-season games in order to earns deals with the team ahead of the 2021-22 season.
