Top of the Line

Ottawa Senators

Someone must have given Guy Boucher a nice whack on the head because he actually is putting Mike Hoffman on the top line with Derick Brassard and Mark Stone. They’re getting a home matchup against the Pittsburgh Penguins who have had a ton of struggles defensively. Since the Senators are home they’re going to get the top line out in the matchup they want, more than likely against a bottom 6 line of Pittsburgh, but make sure to check out Adam’s Line matching article to be sure. The trio will also all be on power play one which boosts them even more. If you want to add a defenseman, Erik Karlsson is the obvious choice, but if you can’t fit him for salary reasons, Dion Phaneuf or even punting Cody Ceci aren’t bad options.

Sharks Power Play

At the time I’m writing this none of the Shark beat writers confirmed any lines so I am unsure whether it’s going to be the line of Couture – Pavelski- Hertl or Pavelski – Thornton – Donskoi. If it’s the former I would lean towards using that line, however if it is the latter I would be more inclined to have my Sharks exposure from the power play unit. The Florida Panthers penalty kill is really poor and the Sharks can definitely get on the board via special teams tonight. The preferred trio I would use would be Couture – PavelskiBurns, however that can get pricey so using Tim Heed is definitely a viable option. I do not have much interest in Joe Thornton despite the price because he has a low floor and a low ceiling, also he is admittedly not 100% healthy.

Colorado Avalanche

This is an interesting spot for Colorado tonight as they get a home matchup with the Washington Capitals who got trounced in Nashville 6-3 and now are starting their back up tonight in Phillip Grubauer. Let’s set the record straight, I don’t think the Avalanche are a very good team, however this is a very good spot for the line of Mikko Rantanen – Nathan MacKinnon – Gabriel Landeskog. They’re fairly priced which allows you to fill out the rest of your lineup without having to going with an extremely cheap secondary line. Regardless of who they matchup against it will be advantage Colorado here as the Capitals have proven time and time again they have blue line and depth issues. Tyson Barrie is out tonight so if you want to use a defenseman with them newly acquired 19 year old Samuel Girard is the preferred choice with Erik Johnson as a secondary option.

Deep Dive

Arizona Coyotes

If you really need some salary relief tonight this is one of the spots to do it. The line of Tobias Reider – Christian Dvorak – Christian Fischer are similarly priced to the Sedin line on Vancouver and not that ownership will be an issue on a 12 game slate, especially for lines like this, Arizona will come in lower owned than the Sedin line tonight. More than likely they will see a bottom 6 matchup from the Canadiens who have been a Jekyl and Hyde team all season. This is a decent matchup for the Dvorak line and because of price all they really need to do is hit the score sheet once and they will hit value and anything on top of that will be gravy. If you want to use a defenseman with this line, Jason Demers or Alex Goligoski are the preferred choice.

Alex Goligoski, Brent Burns, Christian Dvorak, Christian Fischer, Cody Ceci, Derick Brassard, Dion Phaneuf, Erik Johnson, Erik Karlsson, Gabriel Landeskog, Jason Demers, Joe Pavelski, Joonas Donskoi, Logan Couture, Mark Stone, Mike Hoffman, Mikko Rantanen, Nathan MacKinnon, Samuel Girard, Tim Heed, Tobias Rieder, Tomas Hertl
