Draft Review: Ducks Sign Cam Fowler

Draft Review: Ducks Sign Cam Fowler

Eleven teams may have passed on him during the draft but the Anaheim Ducks will not pass on signing their talented young defenseman.

With Scott Niedermayer now a memory, Fowler will get every opportunity to prove himself during training camp.  Here is a quote from the kid, courtesy of The OC Register Ducks Blog:

“I’m not one to speak for them,” Fowler said. “Like I said, I definitely think it showed the confidence they have in me. The main thing for them is they want me to continue to develop in the weight room and grow into my frame. They’ve always said that from day one. As long as I do that, I plan to come into training camp and play well.”

Not only could Fowler make the team but he may even see top four minutes.  Lubomir Visnovsky and Toni Lydman represent the only established options as James Wisniewski still needs to go through arbitration.

Without any signings, one of Sheldon Brookbank, Luca Sbisa or Fowler will see extended time.  Fowler will look to break the Ducks out of an awful draft trend, which should be easier considering his expectations as a top five pick.
