February 6th – Fantasy Hockey Goalie Rankings

Only three days left of NHL action before the two-week Olympic break, which begins on Sunday. We have 11 games across the league tonight and a couple of games that feature some excellent Olympic goaltending battles. The most intriguing is Luongo (CAN) vs. Price (CAN) who are obviously both in contention for Canada’s starting job. Both should have great games with their respective clubs 23rd (VAN) and 24th(MTL) in scoring. Then we have a potential preview of Russia vs. U.S.A (FEB. 15) in Los Angeles with Bobrovsky and Quick going head-to-head. And then East vs. West powers will collide with the Bruins in St. Louis. Rask (FIN) and Halak (SVK) will meet.

***

  1. Carey Price (vs. VAN) – Price is 2-1-1 with a 0.98 GAA, .970 SV% and two shutouts in his last four starts.
  2. Sergei Bobrovsky (@ LA) – Bob has won three straight while posting a 1.67 GAA and .952 SV%, he must-start vs. a slumping Kings squad.
  3. Ben Bishop (vs. TOR) – Bishop has won five of his last 10 starts while posting a 2.39 GAA and .925 SV%.
  4. Semyon Varlamov (@ PHI) – Sure Varly got blown-out on Tuesday, but prior to that he won seven of nine. Expect a better Avalanche team tonight in Philly.
  5. Tuukka Rask (@ STL) – Rask’s 2.09 GAA and .929 SV% on the season should be enough of a reason to start him vs. a tough Blues team.
  6. Roberto Luongo (@ MTL) – Neither offence in this game is great and both goalies should be motivated to go head-to-head.
  7. Craig Anderson (vs. BUF) – Anderson has taken advantage of Buffalo this season going 2-0-0 with a 0.50 GAA and .987 SV% in two starts.
  8. Jonathan Quick (vs. CBJ) – Quick has had four straight starts with a SV% under .900, but he remains a strong play behind a good defensive team, he just might not get the win because the Kings can’t score. (Likely)
  9. Evgeni Nabokov (vs. CGY) – Nabby has posted a 1.59 GAA and .946 SV% in three starts since returning from a leg injury, get him out there vs. the Flames.
  10. Jimmy Howard (@ FLA) – While Howard’s overall numbers still are not pretty, he has played much better over the last month and draws a favourable matchup tonight.
  11. Jaroslav Halak (vs. BOS) – Halak has won six of nine while posting a 1.92 GAA, .931 SV% and two shutouts. However, his matchup tonight is not ideal.
  12. Ondrej Pavelec (@ WSH) – Pavelec has won seven of nine starts and faces a depleted Capitals team.
  13. Jonatan Bernier (@ TB) – Bernier will likely see a ton of rubber tonight, but you already knew that. You can bet on a strong SV% tonight, if the Leafs show up maybe even a W.
  14. Steve Mason (vs. COL) – Mason is 3-1-0 with a 1.50 GAA and .949 SV% in his last four starts and played very well in his first start vs. Colorado (29/31 in 2-1 loss).
  15. Darcy Kuemper (vs. NSH) – Kuemper is 7-3-2 with a 2.20 GAA and .931 SV% since being recalled and will take on the 22nd ranked offence tonight.
  16. Cameron Talbot (vs. EDM) – Talbot is 10-4-0 with a 1.79 GAA and .935 SV% on the year and should make for a great spot-start vs. the Oilers.
  17. Ben Scrivens (@ NYR) – In 15 starts with the Kings, Scrivens saw an average of 29.2 shots per game, in Edmonton he has faced 39 per game in his first five starts. The Rangers rank 3rd in the NHL in shots… Mathematically it doesn’t look like a great matchup. Depends if you’re into math or not.
  18. Carter Hutton (@ MIN) – Hutton has won six of his last eight starts while posting a 2.45 GAA and .916 SV%.
  19. Braden Holtby (vs. WPG) – Holtby gets the surprise start, but still is not a great option given the Capitals recent struggles and the matchup vs. the surging Jets.
  20. Tim Thomas (vs. DET) – 3-0-0 with a 2.21 GAA and .911 SV% against Detroit this season but that was before he posted a 3.56 GAA and .878 SV% in his last five starts.
  21. Reto Berra (@NYI) -Berra’s 3.11 GAA and .894 SV% is a good reason keep him on the waiver wire.
  22. Jhonas Enroth (@ OTT) – He will be ranked near the bottom until he wins a game. Enroth is 1-11-5 and the lone win came way back on October 25.
