Golden Knights Acquire Stone, Lock him up Long-Term

The Vegas Golden Knights landed the biggest fish on deadline day. Vegas acquired forward Mark Stone from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for defenseman Erik Brannstrom, forward Oscar Lindberg, and a 2020 second-round pick. Following the trade, Vegas and Stone agreed to an eight-year, $76-million extension.

To the Golden Knights

Stone has established himself as an elite offensive talent, averaging over a point per game in each of the last two seasons. The impending unrestricted free-agent expressed a desire to stay in Ottawa long-term, but the two sides were unable to come to terms on an extension. Along with Artemi Panarin and his former teammate Matt Duchene, Stone was one of the most sought-after commodities on the trade market. He is a massive addition to a Vegas team that has underwhelmed offensively this season. The 26-year-old has racked up 28 goals and 34 assists in 62 games this season. His first chance to make his Golden Knights debut will come at home Tuesday against the Stars.
