Golden Knights explode for four-goal first period in Game 1

The Vegas Golden Knights continue to be one of the coolest stories in sports.

The expansion team kicked off their second round matchup against the San Jose Sharks on Thursday night after sweeping the Los Angeles Kings in Round 1.

Vegas scored four times in the opening period, including three goals in a span of 91 seconds within the first 10 minutes of play:

The Golden Knights weren’t done there, however, as Alex Tuch would walk through four opposing players several minutes later to add to the lead:

Tuch was included in a package deal by the Minnesota Wild in 2017 to ensure that Vegas selected Erik Haula, not blueliner Matt Dumba, as its expansion player.

This marks the fifth time this season Vegas has scored four goals in a period. While they only scored seven times in the opening round against the Kings, they also limited Los Angeles to just four goals. In a span of 12 minutes in Game 1 of the second round, the Golden Knights scored as many goals as the Kings scored against them in Round 1.

The Golden Knights recently became the first team in the NHL, NBA or MLB to sweep a best-of-seven in their inaugural season. They’re well on their way to creating more history in Round 2.
