The Montreal Canadiens have signed defenceman Marc-Andre Bergeron in order to fill their void of defence after the injuries to Andrei Markov and Ryan O’Byrne earlier this week. The club signed Bergeron to a one-year, $750,000 contract. He will spend some time with the Hamilton Bulldogs on a conditioning stint before the Canadiens call him up. With Markov out of the lineup Bergeron should see plenty of time on the Canadians powerplay along with Jaroslav Spacek and Roman Hamrlik. If he gets a lot of time on the first unit with Gomez, Cammalleri and Gionta he could definitely have some fantasy value. Bergeron recorded 14 goals and 18 assists in 72 games with the Wild last season, which are respectable numbers for a defenceman on a team that was so defensively minded.  Bergeron will by no means replace Markov, but its an improvement over having Hal Gill on the powerplay.
