January 23rd – Fantasy Hockey Goalie Rankings

Hi Everyone! Brock here once again on a busy Thursday across the NHL. We have 10 games on the slate tonight with some of the leagues best goalies in action, as well as a number of strong spot start options. Take a look below at my goalie rankings for tonight’s game to help you decide which goalies to start or which goalies to pick up for that much needed spot start. These rankings are based on who I think has the best chance to earn the W but also with the thought of who will serve up some nice GAA and SV% numbers for your squad.

***

1. Roberto Luongo (vs. NSH) – Luongo has won back-to-back starts vs. Western Canadian opponents while registering a 1.44 GAA and .952 SV%. He faces a tough, hard-working but low-scoring Predators team.

2. Ben Bishop (vs. OTT) – Since returning from his sprained wrist, Bishop is 2-1-1 with a 2.47 GAA and .932 SV%.

3. Sergei Bobrovsky (vs. PHI) – Bobrovsky has has won six straight starts while position a 1.95 GAA and .938 SV% since returning from a lower-body injury.

4. Henrik Lundqvist (vs. STL) – Lundqvist has been great recently, he has won five of his last six starts while posting a 1.34 GAA and .958 SV%, but does draw a tough home matchup tonight.

5. Jonathan Quick (@ ANA) – Quick has been able to keep damage to a minimum in his losses, he hast allowed more than three goals in eight starts since returning to the crease. He enters play with a 4-3-1 record, 2.17 GAA and .921 SV% on the road.

6. Jaroslav Halak (@ NYR) – Halak struggled in relief on Tuesday and will take on a Rangers squad who have won six of their last eight games while outscoring their opponents 23-14.

7. Jonathan Bernier (@ DAL) – Bernier has won four consecutive starts while posting a 2.45 GAA and .935 SV%. The Maple Leafs are playing great hockey right now, while the Stars are not.

8. Antti Raanta (@ MIN) – The rookie netminder is 12-1-3 with a 2.25 GAA and .911 SV%. Behind a strong Hawks offence, he is a solid spot-start option every time he is in the cage.

9. Craig Anderson (@ TB) – Andy has won seven of his last 10 games but will meet a Lightning team who have averaged 3.20 goals per game in their last 10 games.

10. Frederik Andersen (vs. LA) – Andersen has won three in a row while posting a 2.00 GAA and .936 SV%. Tonight he meets the Kings who have lost three straight contests.

11. Kari Lehtonen (vs. TOR) – Lehtonen is coming off of an easy shutout, but it will be anything but easy tonight with Toronto in town. The Leafs have won six straight and have scored 25 goals over that stretch. They have a ton of offence, but also give up a ton of offence.

12. Alex Stalock (vs. WPG) – Stalock’s 1.80 GAA and .938 SV% suggest that he is a strong spot-start candidate, but the Jets are rolling right now. He makes for a high-risk, high-reward start tonight.

13. Ondrej Pavelec (@ SJ) – In his last four Pavelec is 4-0 with a 1.75 GAA and .933 SV%, but he faces a Sharks team who has won four in row while outscoring their opponents 13-7…. The again he just beat the Ducks in Anaheim, your call

14. Jeff Zatkoff (@ NYI) – Zatkoff is 7-2-1 with a 2.67 GAA and .906 SV% this season. It will be his third start vs. the Isles this season, in the first two he is 1-1-0 with a 3.53 GAA and .883 SV%.

15. Ray Emery (@ CBJ) – Emery played very well on Monday, but tonight he goes up against a red-hot Columbus team. Usually they would make for a good spot-start opponent, but that is not the case right now.

16. Carter Hutton (@ VAN) – Hutton has won three in a row with a 1.95 GAA and .933 SV%, but will be hard-pressed to chalk up the W against Roberto Luongo.

17. Darcy Kuemper (vs. CHI) – Kuemper comes into play with a 4-2-0 record, 1.80 GAA and .941 SV% in January, but he draws a scary matchup vs. the Blackhawks.

18. Kevin Poulin (vs. PIT) – Poulin has won six of his last eight starts and has filled in nicely for Evgeni Nabokov, but will be in tough against a highly-talented Penguins squad.

19. Jhonas Enroth (vs. CAR) – It is just hard to trust a guy with only one win over halfway through the season.

Unconfirmed

Carolina – Anton Khudobin / Justin Peters
