BREAKING: McDavid out “months” with broken left clavicle

UPDATE: (12:39 PM ET) – McDavid will undergo surgery to repair a broken left clavicle on Wednesday. McDavid is expected to miss “months” according to GM Peter Chiarelli.

Edmonton Oilers rookie Connor McDavid suffered an upper-body injury in Tuesday’s win over the Philadelphia Flyers that will keep him out “long term.”

McDavid crashed hard into the end boards and got up clutching his left shoulder.

The early reports are that McDavid has suffered a fractured clavicle, but the Oilers have yet to confirm that report. Oilers’ GM Peter Chiarelli is expected to update the media on Wednesday morning.

If it is a fractured clavicle, his timetable could vary but if you remember, Chicago Blackhawks’ forward Patrick Kane missed only seven weeks last year and went on to post 23 points (11G / 12A) in 23 playoff games.

McDavid had been enjoying a great start to his rookie season, scoring 12 points (5G / 7A) in 13 games. The good news for the Oilers? Jordan Eberle (shoulder) is expected to return to the lineup later this week or early next week. This also means that Leon Draisaitl, who has also been playing very well, will definitely stay with the team.
