NHL announces nine additional game postponements between Jan. 3-16

Three days after the NHL announced the postponement of nine games that were scheduled to be played in Canadian arenas between Jan. 3-10 due to attendance restrictions, the league announced additional postponements on Friday.

The newest batch of postponements includes eight games that were scheduled to be played in Canadian arenas from Jan. 3-16, once again due to attendance restrictions, as well as an additional game between the New York Islanders and Seattle Kraken on Jan. 4.

The Islanders were scheduled to visit Seattle as part of a road trip that included games in Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary. After the Islanders’ three games in Western Canada were postponed, the decision was made to not have New York travelled to the West Coast for a single game.

The full list of the postponements is as follows:

Monday, Jan. 3

Minnesota at Ottawa

Tuesday, Jan. 4

New York Islanders at Seattle

Wednesday, Jan. 5

New York Islanders at Vancouver

Saturday, Jan. 8

New York Islanders at Edmonton

Tuesday, Jan. 11

Wednesday, Jan. 12

Minnesota at Edmonton

Friday, Jan. 14

Makeup dates for these games have yet to be announced.

This increases the total number of postponements in the NHL this season to 89. Seventy-two of these are due to COVID-19 outbreaks concerning either or both of the two teams; the other 17 are due to attendance restrictions in Canada.
