NHL Goalie Ladder: Backstrom Sneaks into Top 10

This season, Niklas Backstrom has been one of the most underrated players in fantasy hockey.

Thought to be sheltered by a defensive system and Jacques Lemaire, Backstrom seemed exposed last season when he experienced a career-worst 2.72 GAA and .903 SV%. However, this year seems to be a completely different story as the 33-year-old finds himself back on the right track ith a 2.26 GAA and ,928 SV% through 38 games. We felt he deserved a boost in our rankings and considering his peripherals are relatively close to career averages, we think the Finnish starting goalie might stick.

Backstrom moves up only three spots but other ‘tenders exceeded that rise.

Antti Niemi, Ilya Bryzgalov, Ryan Miller, Miikka Kiprusoff, Michal Neuvirth and James Reimer all moved up over three positions. On the other hand, injured netminders like Jaroslav Halak, Ondrej Pavelec, Semyon Varlamov and Jonas Hiller all fall off the map due to their assorted wounds.
