Nightly Scrap: Sabres break five-game losing streak

Rick Nash led the Columbus Blue Jackets to their second straight win last night, defeating Jonas Hiller and the Anaheim Ducks. Nash scored two and Derek MacKenzie potted his second shot of the night as the team gave the Ducks somewhat of a break, putting only 21 shots on net. Hiller has faced an average of 33 shots on goal this season, so it was interesting to see how he fared against a lesser workload.
Back in Chicago, the defending Stanley Cup Champions managed to sneak a win past the Vancouver Canucks in a shootout. Viktor Stalberg scored the lone goal in regulation although all three shooters scored in the skills competition. Daniel Sedin put across a late powerplay goal, which was his seventh of the young season.
Rookie Andrei Loktionov scored the first goal of his young NHL career in the third period and Jonathan Bernier turned away 27 shots as the Los Angeles Kings defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 4-3. For the second straight night the captain Eric Staal put up a multi-point effort while standout Jeff Skinner also potted his first NHL goal. However, the Kings proved to be a better team when the horn went off. Anze Kopitar took the first star of the game with a goal and an assist, with the latter helping Loktionov seal the victory.
