Picks: King Henrik Looks to Clip Wings

Another solid night last night as a lot of upsets pulled through.  Unfortunately, the big favourite Sabres were stunned by the Rangers and ruined the fan pick streak!  Both of my least favourite teams to pick are playing tonight but we’re sticking with the Wings vs. Rangers.

Looking for a great sportsbook site to place your bets? I use and trust Bodog to place my hockey bets but if you are looking for a site where you can bet for free, try CentSports. You always have a minimum of 10 cents to start off and let you bet on the NHL and other sports. When you increase your balance, you are eligible to cash out! Remember that I post these picks for fun and I encourage you to do the same (i.e. don’t bet what you can’t afford to lose). All lines are provided by Bodog and are current at the time of posting.

Detroit Red Wings +105 at New York Rangers -125

Based solely on last night’s games, the Red Wings should be feeling better about themselves – maybe except for the goalie.  The Red Wings stayed with the much-healthier Devils for the entire game last night despite falling behind 2-0 in the first.  They managed to hold the Devils to just 26 shots and only 12 over the last two periods when they stepped up to get back into the game.  Imagine if they played like that for the whole game (a.k.a to their potential).  The Rangers, on the other hand, can attribute their victory to stellar play by Henrik Lundqvist who turned away 36 shots from the Sabres.  Lundqvist is the only option the Rangers have right now and if he falters, the Rangers will struggle.  Lundqvist hasn’t played back-to-back games all year but he’s just had a week off before yesterday’s game.  Jimmy Howard is obviously the more inexperienced goaltender here but, believe it or not, he is a solid 4-2-1 with a 2.79 GAA on the road this season and 1-0 with a 1.85 GAA at Eastern Conference teams on the season.  Lundqvist hasn’t played Detroit much but he’s only 0-2-1, 4.36 GAA lifetime.  This is a tough game to look at because of the inconsistencies of both teams as both teams match up to nearly .500 on Home/Away records, and Fav/Dog records but I’m going with the team that has shown they know how to win clutch games in the past and hoping they can build off of the urgency they showed last night in New Jersey.
