The Blackhawks have recalled Erik Gustafsson from Rockford (AHL).

Gustafsson, 25, has picked up three goals and 14 assists (17 points) in 25 games with the IceHogs this season. There is no word whether or not Gustafsson will make his season debut this week, but if Cody Franson couldn’t get into the lineup then Gustafsson will likely have a tough time as well.

Gustafsson has signed with Avangard Omsk of Russia's Kontinential Hockey League.

Gustafsson played in only 31 regular-season games and played the final two playoff games after fellow countryman Nicklas Grossmann went down injured. He and Hal Gill were often healthy scratches for the Flyers, who carried eight defensemen for most of the season. Gustafsson was set to become a UFA in the summer.

Gustafsson will replace Hal Gill on the Flyers blueline in Game 6.

Gill had a tough go in just his seventh game of the season on Sunday. A pass went off of his skate in the Flyers end, which resulted in a goal for Dominic Moore and a 3-0 Rangers lead. Gustafsson will come in having scored 10 points (2G / 8A) with a plus-7 rating in 31 games this season. Gustafsson played very well in seven games during the 2011-12 playoffs. He registered one goal and one assist with a plus-4 rating. He is expected to be paired with Luke Schenn in a must-win game for Philly.

“Erik underwent wrist surgery this morning at Methodist Hospital. The surgery was performed by Dr. Randy Culp. We expect Erik to be out of action for six weeks.”

Gustaffsson's injury is a tough one for the kid, who seemed to have earned a spot in the lineup. If you own him, feel safe in dropping the young defender as he holds no fantasy hockey value while on IR.
