Dion Phaneuf News

Phaneuf (upper-body) is being sent back to Los Angeles.

Phaneuf suffered an upper-body injury in Buffalo on Tuesday and was returned to Los Angeles to be re-evaluated. His immediate departure from the Kings road-trip suggests that this is likely more than a day-to-day issue, which is why they recalled Daniel Brickley.

Phaneuf has been cleared and is eligible to play in Thursday's game in Pittsburgh.

Phaneuf was originally expected to be scratched tonight due to immigration issues, but it appears that's been resolved. If he does in fact slot into the lineup tonight, he will most likely take Kevin Gravel's spot on the Kings' second pair alongside Alec Martinez.

Phaneuf (personal) will be back in the Senators lineup on Wednesday.

Phaneuf missed the last two games to be with his wife for their birth of their daughter. After a few days off over the Christmas break, Phaneuf is ready to get back in the lineup tonight in Boston. Phaneuf has 11 points (3G / 8A) in 32 games this season.

Phaneuf (personal) left the team and is questionable for Thursday.

Senators head coach Guy Boucher said Phaneuf is away from the team and may or may not play on Thursday. Andreas Englund was recalled from Belleville (AHL) this morning which suggests that Phaneuf won't be available, but monitor the defenseman's status leading up to puck-drop.

Phaneuf (lower-body) will not play on Wednesday.

Phaneuf was hit hard by Capitals defenseman Brooks Orpik in the second period, but finished the period and did not come out for the third. Phaneuf will miss tonight’s game and there is no timetable for his return. With Phaneuf out, the Senators have recalled Fredrik Claesson from Binghamton (AHL).

The Senators have acquired Dion Phaneuf, Matt Frattin, Casey Bailey, Ryan Rupert and prospect Cody Donaghey from the Maple Leafs for Jared Cowen, Colin Greening, Milan Michalek, Tobias Lindberg and a 2017 2nd round pick.

The Maple Leafs were able to ship out Phaneuf and his massive contract without having to retain any salary. Phaneuf will make his Senators debut on Wednesday in Detroit, where he will be paired with Cody Ceci. Phaneuf has collected three goals, 21 assists (24 points) and 116 shots in 51 games with the Maple Leafs. He will be playing second fiddle to Erik Karlsson in Ottawa, but an improved offence could help his fantasy value in the long-run.

Phaneuf (hand) will return to the Leafs lineup on Thursday.

Phaneuf has been out with a hand injury since January 21st, but he is finally ready to get back into the lineup on Thursday. He suffered a setback along the way, which prolonged his recovery, but with the Leafs well out of the playoff race, there was no need to rush their captain back into the lineup. He has two goals and 20 assists (22 points) in 48 games this season.
