Jason Chimera News

The Ducks have acquired Jason Chimera from the Islanders for Chris Wagner.

Chimera has picked up just two goals and nine assists (11 points) in 58 games with the Islanders this season. The 38-year-old brings a lot of speed but not a lot of offence to the Ducks bottom-6.

Chimera will be in the Islanders opening night lineup.

Chimera has been skating as an extra forward since the end of training camp, but the Islanders will go with an experienced roster vs. the Blue Jackets, meaning Josh Ho-Sang will sit. Chimera is coming off of a shocking 20-goal, 13-assist season while shooting 16.5 percent.

The Islanders signed Jason Chimera to a two-year deal worth $4.5 million ($2.25M AAV).

The Islanders lost a bottom-6 forward in Matt Martin, so they’ve added 37-year-old Chimera to the fold, bringing some experience and speed to their third or fourth line. He is coming off of a strong season in Washington, having collected 20 goals and 20 assists (40 points) in 82 games.

Chimera is day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

Chimera suffered a lower-body injury in the Capitals loss to the Sharks on Tuesday and was not on the ice for practice on Wednesday. With Chimera potential out on Thursday, expect Alex Ovechkin to return and Stanislav Galiev to remain in the lineup.

The Capitals have signed Jason Chimera to a two-year contract extension, with an annual salary cap hit of $1.75 million. The veteran winger is now under contract with Washington through the 2013-14 season.

Chimera is a very capable winger who can play anywhere between the second and fourth lines. Last season he scored 10 goals and 26 points through 81 games. Expect him to fight for his playing time over the year.

Chimera was back on the ice Monday, though he won't play against the Blue Jackets Monday night. He said he just “tweaked” something a little bit - “nothing major.”

Chimera likely won't miss much time due to his tweak. Last season, the winger scored 10 goals and 26 points through 81 games with the Caps. He will need to battle for his playing time with the team adding Troy Brouwer and Joel Ward to their wings.

Jason Chimera missed practice again Sunday, though Boudreau deemed that precautionary as well. Chimera hasn't been on the ice since leaving Friday while feeling “a little off,” in Boudreau's words.

Chimera will face heavy competition and could get demoted all the way down to the fourth line. Last season he scored 10 goals and 26 points in 81 games. Don't draft unless you litterally need a roster plug.

Jason Chimera, who was originally scheduled to suit up in Chicago, left the ice this morning becuase he “felt a little off,” according to Coach Bruce Boudreau.

Chimera probably won't miss any actual playing time. The left wing scored 10 goals and 26 assists last season for the Caps but somehow managed a minus-10 rating. No need to draft him unless you're league features deep rosters.
