Silfverberg will retire from the NHL after 12 NHL seasons.

Silfverberg has decided to retire at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season. The 33-year-old Silfverberg was the 39th overall pick of the Ottawa Senators in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft and spent the past 11 seasons as a member of the Ducks. He has 19 points (7G / 12A) through 78 games this season.

Silfverberg is week-to-week with a blood clot in his right leg.

Silfverberg hasn't been ruled out for the season but he won't skate for at least two weeks. The Ducks are holding out hope that he can return to the lineup before the Ducks finish their season on April 29th. He last played on March 8th against the Chicago Blackhawks, and the Ducks placed him on injured reserve two days later with a lower-body injury.

Silfverberg underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right hip and will be out four to six months.

Silfverberg has had a tough season, likely due to playing through this hip injury, posting just eight goals with eight assists (16 points) in 47 games. If he ends up missing six months, Silfverberg could miss the start of the 2021-22 season.

The Ducks have reportedly signed Jakob Silfverberg to a five-year contract extension.

Because of salary cap issues, the deal can’t officially be signed until after Monday’s trade deadline but Silfverberg’s new cap-hit is expected to be north of $5.0 million. Silfverberg has always been a player who shoots the puck a lot and has been able to maintain 2-plus shots per game even on a bad Ducks team this season, scoring 16 goals with just eight assists (24 points) in 51 games. The Ducks are expected to be sellers at the deadline but Silfverberg will be sticking around.
