Kerby Rychel News

The Canadiens have acquired Kerby Rychel, Rinat Valiev and a 2018 second-round pick from the Maple Leafs for Tomas Plekanec and Kyle Baun.

Rychel is now on his third NHL team since being drafted No.19 overall in 2013 by the Blue Jackets. Rychel has picked up 30 points (10G / 20A) in 55 games with the Marlies (AHL) this season and will report to the Laval Rocket.

The Blue Jackets have recalled Kerby Rychel from Lake Erie (AHL).

Rychel continues to be the Blue Jackets favourite call-up. The 21-year-old, former first round pick, has 20 points (5G / 15A) in 21 games with Lake Erie this season. In 11 games with the Blue Jackets, he has picked up three assists. He is expected to skate on the third line as he replaces Nick Foligno (upper-body) in the lineup.

Rychel was a minus-1 with five penalty minutes in his season debut and with Brandon Dubinsky out with an elbow injury, Rychel will be in the lineup tonight for the second time this season. Rychel had 11 points (4G / 7A) in 10 games with Lake Erie at the time of his call-up.

Rychel played 10:10 and did not record a point in his only game during his most recent call-up. With the addition of Jeremy Morin on Monday and Fedor Tyutin ready to be activated from IR, Rychel has been squeezed back to the AHL.

Rychel was just sent down the other day after Brandon Dubinsky returned to the lineup, but with Scott Hartnell sidelined for the next two weeks with a broken finger that he suffered on Thursday, Rychel has been recalled and will likely be with the team until Christmas. Rychel made his NHL debut on November 29 at Nashville and picked up three assists and two penalty minutes in four games with the Blue Jackets.

Rychel, 20, had a nice first career NHL stint, positing three assists in four games. The 2013 first round pick (19th overall) heads back to the AHL where he has 13 points (6G / 7A) in 22 games this season.

Rychel, who started the Blue Jackets’ last game on a line with Ryan Johansen, goes from the top-line to the press box tonight. He has recorded three assists in his first four NHL games, but with Brandon Dubinsky coming back, someone has to come out.

The Blue Jackets have recalled Kerby Rychel from Springfield (AHL).

Rychel, 20, has collected six goals and seven assists and 30 penalty minutes in 22 games with Springfield in his first professional campaign. He split the 2013-14 season between the Guelph Storm and Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League, posting 34-56-90 and 43 penalty minutes and scoring the title-clinching goal in Game 5 of the OHL Finals to help Guelph win the J. Ross Robertson Cup.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed left wing Kerby Rychel of the Ontario Hockey League’s Guelph Storm to a three-year entry level contract.

Rychel was the club’s second of three first round picks in the 2013 NHL Draft, selected 19th overall. Rychel, 19, has tallied 17 goals and 28 assists for 45 points with 17 penalty minutes and a +16 plus/minus rating to go along with five power play and four game-winning goals in 30 games with Windsor and Guelph this season. Rychel is currently representing Team Canada at the 2014 World Junior Hockey Championship.
