The Canucks have acquired Tanner Kero from the Blackhawks for Michael Chaput.

Kero, 25, spent most of the 2018 season in the AHL, where he had 20 points (8G / 12A) in 36 games with the Rockford IceHogs. He has registered 22 points (8G / 14A) in 72 career NHL games with the Blackhawks. He figures to start the 2019 season in Utica (AHL).

With Marian Hossa (upper-body) not playing on Friday, Kero has been recalled and will make his season debut. The 24-year-old forward has seven goals and 13 assists (20 points) in 28 games with Rockford this season.

Kero had a nice stint with the Blackhawks. Known more for his two-way play, Kero had one goal and two assists in 17 games, but his 1:37 SH/TOI per game was good for second among Blackhawks forwards. He goes back to the AHL with the team deciding to give Dennis Rasmussen a chance to make his NHL debut on Tuesday.

Kero, 23, registered an impressive six goals and two assists (8 points) in seven games with Rockford prior to being recalled on Tuesday. He will replace Vince Hinostroza on the Blackhawks third line. He is expected to make his NHL debut on Thursday.
