The NHL has suspended Antoine Vermette for 10 games.

Vermette has been suspended for 10 games because of his slash on a linesman last night. Vermette took a chop at a linesman after a face-off and is not eligible to play until March 12th vs. the Capitals. Expect Jared Boll to be back in the lineup on Friday, unless the Ducks make a call-up.

Vermette left Thursday’s game with a lower-body injury and did not return.

Vermette left halfway through Thursday’s game and is listed as day-to-day. Head coach Dave Tippett doesn’t think the injury is “too serious” so there’s a chance that he could be in the lineup on Saturday vs. Boston.

The Blackhawks have acquired Antoine Vermette from Arizona for Klas Dahlbeck and a 2015 first-round pick.

Vermette, 32, is a pending unrestricted free agent, so this is a steep price to pay for a rental. The Patrick Kane injury really forced the Blackhawks hand though. Vermette has scored 13 goals with 22 assists (35 points) in 63 games with Arizona. He is a very effective two-way forward and is excellent in the face-off circle—Vermette currently sits eighth in the NHL in face-off percentage at 56.0%.
