The Maple Leafs have signed Brad Boyes to a professional tryout (PTO).

Boys, 33, collected 14 goals and 24 assists (38 points) in 78 games with the Panthers last season. Boyes has a career high of 72 points (2008-09) but has averaged 18 goals and 26 assists (44 points) per 82 games in the last three seasons. The Maple Leafs are thin upfront, so they have brought in a number of veteran forwards to compete for a roster spot.

The Florida Panthers have signed Brad Boyes to a one-year deal. Boyes had been in camp on a tryout basis.

Boyes has been playing with Kris Versteeg and rookie Alexsander Barkov in the preseason, so it appears that will be a line to start the season. “He’s a scorer and he has to play with skill players, complementary guys,” GM Dale Tallon said. “Obviously we didn’t score very much last year. We need guys who can put the puck in the net and make plays. He’s one of those guys who can do that. Forward Brad Boyes and defenseman Robyn Regehr were not on the ice, with coach Lindy Ruff saying both got "maintenance days" and should be ready to play Thursday.

Sounds like both players needed a rest after playing last night. Boyes has only three goals and 13 points through 43 games which has relegated him mostly to fourth line duties.
