The Blues have recalled Chris Butler from San Antonio (AHL).

Butler has always put up solid numbers at the AHL level, but has just 85 points (14G / 71A) in 396 career NHL games with the Sabres, Flames and Blues. In 23 games with San Antonio, Butler has registered two goals and eight assists (10 points). He has been recalled because Alex Pietrangelo (upper-body was moved to IR.

The veteran blueliner has great numbers in the AHL throughout his career, but hasn’t been able to translate it into NHL success. Butler, who has 24 points (8G / 16A) in 52 games with the Rampage this season has no points in two games with the Blues.

Butler didn’t record a point while averaging just 7:21 TOI/GM in two games during his call-up. Jordan Schmaltz has been recalled to take his spot in Sunday’s lineup. The veteran returns to the Rampage where he has eight goals and 15 assists (23 points) in 48 games this season.

Butler, 30, has been a strong producer at the AHL level throughout his career, but has struggled to produce at the same rate in the NHL. Butler is coming off of a season in which he had five goals and 21 assists (26 points) in 72 games with Chicago (AHL).

Butler spent most of last season in the AHL, appearing in just five games with the Blues. During his time with Chicago (AHL), he had 18 points (4G / 14A) in 46 contests. He will once again be a depth defenseman for St. Louis.

Butler took part in the Flames' morning skate and will be in the lineup tonight in Edmonton. Butler has 10 points (2G / 8A) with a minus-17 rating in 59 games this season. Butler has been a big minutes eater for the Flames this season, averaging 19:48 TOI per game.
