Christopher Gibson has been recalled from Coachella Valley (AHL)

Gibson was recalled Tuesday from the Coachella Valley Firebirds after being demoted last week and passing through waivers. The 29-year-old has struggled mightily this year, posting a glaringly high 7.61 GAA and .706 SV% in two games played with the Firebirds.

Gibson hasn't played in the NHL since getting two starts for the Tampa Bay Lightning back in the 2020-21 season. Across four career NHL seasons, he has four wins and a .901 SV% to go along with a 3.33 GAA through 16 total games played.

Gibson was steady in net for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (AHL) in 2020, going 10-8-5 with a 2.78 GAA and .914 SV%. Gibson has played very sparingly in the NHL throughout his seven-year pro career, going 3-4-3 with a 3.45 GAA and .904 SV% in 14 career games. Gibson will likely be the No.1 netminder in Syracuse (AHL) in 2021 and would come up if something were to happen to Andrei Vasilevskiy or Curtis McElhinney.

The Islanders have recalled Christopher Gibson from Bridgeport (AHL).

Gibson has gone 18-9-1 with a 2.89 GAA and .900 SV% in 33 games with Bridgeport this season. Gibson is expected to serve as Thomas Greiss’ backup on Thursday with Robin Lehner getting hurt late in Tuesday’s game after a collision with Brady Tkachuk.

The Islanders have recalled Christopher Gibson from Bridgeport (AHL) under emergency conditions.

Robin Lehner is doubtful for Thursday’s game after leaving Tuesday’s contest with an injury. Gibson will likely back-up Thomas Greiss and comes up after going 3-3-0 with a 4.21 GAA and .861 SV% in six AHL games.

Gibson was pulled after he allowed six goals on 24 shots in the Islanders loss to the Lightning last Thursday. Gibson has gone 2-1-2 with a 3.48 GAA and .915 SV% in six starts since being called-up and will be in tough tonight with Florida in town—they are 12-3-1 in their last 16 games.

Gibson allowed one goal on 37 shots in the Islanders win over the Penguins on Tuesday. It was a spectacular outing for the young netminder, who will get his sixth start of the year tonight vs. the Islanders. Gibson is 2-1-2 with a 2.58 GAA and .936 SV% in the NHL this season.

Gibson was pulled after he allowed five goals on 12 shots in the Islanders blowout loss to the Capitals last Thursday. Jaroslav Halak started the last two games, but the Isles will come back to Gibson tonight vs. the Penguins—he stopped 47 of 50 shots in a 3-2 OT loss in Pittsburgh in his season debut a few weeks ago.
