Detroit Red Wings

DeKeyser is day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

DeKeyser suffered a lower-body injury in the Red Wings’ loss in Dallas on Tuesday. The Red Wings start a back-to-back on Thursday, so monitor DeKeyser’s status during their morning skate. Niklas Kronwall said he hopes to be back by Thursday, so he could take DeKeyser’s spot in the lineup.

The Red Wings signed Danny DeKeyser to a six-year contract worth $30 million ($5M AAV).

DeKeyser, 26, is coming off of his third full NHL season and set a career-high in goals (8), but a career-low in points (20). DeKeyser is arguably the Red Wings’ top defenseman and they have locked him up through the 2021-22 season. Look for DeKeyser to play huge minutes for Detroit in 2016-17 and he has shown the potential to be and effective goal-scorer with 30-plus point potential.

DeKeyser left Wednesday's game after blocking a shot and did not return.

DeKeyser blocked a Dion Phaneuf in an uncomfortable spot and was forced to the locker room. He came out and tested it during a T.V timeout but couldn't put enough weight on it to return to the game. Head coach Jeff Blashill said he thinks DeKeyser is only dealing with a bruise and is day-to-day.

DeKeyser (foot) resumed skating on Monday.

DeKeyser was expected to miss 3-4 weeks with a strained ligament in his foot. He is one and a half weeks into that timeline so he could skate solo for a few days before he is cleared to re-join practice. Monitor DeKeyser’s status as the week progresses, he could be ready to join the team as early as this weekend.

DeKeyser is expected to miss 3-4 weeks with a sprained ligament in his left foot.

This is a tough break for the Red Wings, who planned to have DeKeyser play with Mike Green so that Green could open up offensively. Green will now play with either Kyle Quincey or Brendan Smith and Jakub Kindl or one of the Red Wings’ young defensemen will be inserted into the lineup. DeKeyser is expected to miss at least the first seven games of the season.

Defenseman Danny DeKeyser won’t be at practice Friday listed as day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

The injury could be a groin which means day-to-day could mean a couple of weeks. The Wings have recalled defenseman Alexey Marchenko from Grand Rapids to take his place on the blue line. He’s expected to make his NHL debut Saturday in Dallas. Expect a more detailed injury update to come later in the day or on Saturday.
