Jimmy Howard News

Howard has been placed on LTIR (retroactive to Nov.27) and been assigned to Grand Rapids (AHL).

Moving Howard provides the Red Wings with some salary-cap relief and making it retroactive to November 27th means he can return this week. Howard is expected to start with the Griffins on Tuesday night and could return to the Red Wings if he doesn't suffer a setback.

Howard (groin) is "still not close to returning."

Howard has participated in the last two morning skates but told reporters that he's not close. Howard likely won't be back for at least another week, so the Red Wings will continue to with a goaltending tandem of Jonathan Bernier and Eric Comrie for now.

The Red Wings have placed Jimmy Howard (lower-body) on IR.

Howard was forced to start on Wednesday because Jonathan Bernier was sick and he was hurt midway through the first period. With Howard on IR, Calvin Pickard was called-up from Grand Rapids (AHL) and will serve as the Red Wings No.2 for now.

Howard will start Monday vs. the Predators.

Howard was pulled after he allowed five goals on 21 shots in the Red Wings 7-3 loss in Carolina last Friday. Since an opening night win in Nashville, Howard has gone 1-6-0 with a 3.77 GAA and .892 SV% in seven starts. Tonight he faces the Predators again, but since that game, they've gone 7-3-2 while averaging 3.83 goals per game. Keep Howard on your bench or free agency to start the week.

Howard stopped 31 of 32 shots in the Red Wings win over the Oilers on Tuesday. The Red Wings' netminders have been alternating starts but on Friday, Hethey will start Howard two in a row for the first time this season. He is 10-10-1 on the road since the start of last season and Hurricanes present a very scary road matchup for Howie and the Red Wings.

Howard allowed two goals on 25 shots in the Red Wings 2-0 loss to the Sabres last Friday. The lack of goal support makes Howard extremely difficult to trust on any given night. In his last five starts, he has gone 0-5-0 with a 3.71 GAA and .894 SV% while also receiving just 1.20 GF/gm in goal support. Stay away from him, even against an Oilers team that has lost three of four while averaging just 1.5 goals per game.
