Miikka Kiprusoff, made it official Monday: He is done with the NHL, after nine seasons with the Flames that put him alongside Mike Vernon as one of the franchise’s greatest goaltenders. Kiprusoff, 36, had one year remaining on a front-loaded six-year, $35-million (U.S.) contract he signed before the start of the 2008-09 season. According to the Flames, they knew about his plans all along, but chose not to make them public in case he changed his mind.

Kiprusoff had, by far and away, his worst season with Calgary in 2013 – 8-14-2, 3.44 goals-against average, .882 save percentage. Statistically, Kiprusoff finished as the Flames all-time leader in wins (305), games played (576) and shutouts (41)

Hartley says Kiprusoff will start tomorrow in San Jose. #Flames

The Flames traded away Iginla and Bouwmeester who were arguably the Flames two best players. They are clearly in a rebuilding mode which does not bode well for Kiprusoff's fantasy value. He was not traded yesterday so he will be their #1 for the remainder of the season. He has a tough matchup tomorrow vs. the Sharks.

After a great performance in his return to the Flames crease, Kiprusoff had two bad performances in a row. He is now 1-2-0 with a 3.92 GAA and .861 SV% since coming back from injury. He has a tough matchup tonight against a solid Red Wings team who get Valteri Filppula back tonight which solidifies their top-6.

Kiprusoff will be in goal tonight for the Flames.

Kiprusoff played great in his first game back from injury stopping 32 of the 33 (.970 SV%) shots that he faced in a 4-1 win over San Jose. The Flames have quietly been on a bit of a tear of late, going 4-1-1 in their last six and picking up wins over Minnesota, Phoenix, Vancouver and San Jose. Kiprusoff has a tough matchup tonight vs. an Anaheim that sits in second in the Western Conference at 16-3-3 (35 points).

Miikka Kiprusoff first off the ice. Looks like he's starting. #Flames

Kiprusoff was practicing in the Visitor's end at practice which would usually indicate he is the backup, but then he was the first to leave the ice which would tell us he is starting. So it looks like Kipper will return to the Flames crease tonight after being out a month. The Flames backup goalies played well during Kiprusoff's absence and have the Flames just four points out of a playoff spot.
