Despres, who has a $3.7 million cap-hit has been moved to LTIR to help create some cap flexibility for the Ducks, who are still trying to sign Hampus Lindholm. Despres is dealing with concussion issues and there’s not timetable for his return.
Despres missed the third period of Thursday’s game with an upper-body injury. There is no word how Despres suffered the injury, but it could be related to the concussion problems that he dealt with last season. Consider him day-to-day with an undisclosed upper-body injury until more information is available.

Coach Johnston said that Despres left practice because of a “nagging injury.” The Penguins don’t play until Wednesday, so Despres has a couple of days to take it easy and heal up.

Returning Despres to the AHL suggests that Paul Martin is nearing a return. Despres has been a healthy scratch in the last three games. Overall he recorded four assists and 12 PIMs in 18 games.
Despres had played well to this point but with Scuderi's return, his lineup spot became expendable.
After playing 33 games with the Penguins last season, Despres has not appeared in a game with them this season. In 17 games games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, he has three goals and 11 points. Paul Martin landed on IR today, so Despres could be in the lineup tonight. Head coach Dan Bylsma will have to decide between Despres or Robert Bortuzzo.
Despres, 21, has appeared in 24 regular-season games this season for Pittsburgh, notching two goals, five assists and seven points while posting a plus-10 rating that places second among NHL rookies. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Despres has collected assists in each of his last two games with Pittsburgh. Despres has also been a plus or even player in 20 of his last 21 games (+14 during stretch).
