Downie (head) will play on Friday.
Downie left Tuesday’s game after being elbowed in the head by Wild defenseman Ryan Suter. He was able to practice the last few days and was on the ice for the morning skate, so he is good to go. He has two goals and one assist in hike last five games since returning from mumps.

Downie (mumps) will return to the Penguins lineup on Friday.
Downie has missed the last five games with mumps, but will be back in tonight vs.the Lightning. Downie has five goals, 12 assists (17 points), a plus-8 rating and 135 PIMS in 32 games this season. He does it across the board and will be a welcomed addition to many fantasy lineups tonight.
Downie (mumps) will not play on Wednesday.

Downie took line rushes with Sidney Crosby and Nick Spaling during pre-game warmups this afternoon. The Penguins have been banged up at forward, so Downie, who has just 10 points (3G / 7A) in 25 games, will skate with Crosby vs. the Senators.
The Penguins have signed Steve Downie to a one-year, $1 million dollar deal.
Downie scored four goals with 20 assists and 106 penalty minutes in 62 games between the Avalanche and the Flyers. Downie battled a number of injuries including a concussion in 2013-14, so the Penguins take nearly no risk by signing him to a one-year, million dollar contract.
