Rangers officially name David Quinn as Head Coach

The New York Rangers have officially named David Quinn as the 35th Head Coach in Franchise history. 

Quinn was originally a first-round pick (No.13 overall in 1984) of the Minnesota North Stars but never made it to the NHL. Quinn transitioned to coaching as an assistant at Northeastern University in 1993-14. He went on to be an associate coach at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and his alma mater Boston University before becoming an AHL head coach in the Colorado Avalanche organization. After three years with the Lake Erie Monsters he went back to Boston University in 2013-14 and spent the last five years there.

During his tenure at Boston University, Quinn won’t two Hockey East Tournament Championships and two Hockey East Regular Season Championships. 

Quinn takes over for Alain Vigneault, who was the head coach since 2013-14 and missed the playoffs for the first time this season. The Rangers finished the year at 34-39-9 but have qualified for the playoffs in 11 of the last 13 seasons.
