Red Light Specials: 12/18 Edition

Evening, players. A brief one-day hiatus from the Red Light Specials last night, but, if you were astute enough to take the two picks from the 16th column, you went 2/2 last night. MTL/MIN easily hit the under, while the Wings blanked the Bolts to make them a winner.

As for tonight, an abridged column since we’re already so close to puck drop. Not to mention, just six games on the slate tonight and that makes for a tough betting night with such limited choices.

CAR @ FLA o5.5 (-110)

In a play already beautifully summed up by my DF colleague, Mr. Matt Bennett, here, https://publish.dailyfaceoff.com/11013/if-you-like-goals-look-to-the-panthers, the fact that this line is at -110 is staggering. Carolina’s been awful in every facet of the game on the road, and tonight does not look to be a whole lot different. This play is sure to be a solid move tonight.

CHI -1.5 (+190) v. BOS

The Chicago Blackhawks will send Antti Niemi at the Boston Bruins tonight to try and continue the Blackhawks’ blank streak. Back to back shutouts have propelled the Hawks back to second place in the crowded Western Conference. Niemi is the right guy to continue the streak. Why? Because he has posted goose eggs in three of his eight starts.

With Chicago 14-3 ATS at home, riding a tremendous streak, and the Bruins unwilling to play Tuukka Rask tonight, this looks like a very solid play. Chicago has allowed 0.8 goals per game over their last five (five straight unders) and kills off 91.2% of penalties on home ice.

Take the Hawks to the bank in this original six matchup.

The RLS column will likely miss tomorrow’s early games as I have another lovely mite game to ref. In any event, with a very heavy slate tomorrow, look for some good picks and some good values to come from the oddsmakers. With just one week until Christmas, for those of you that celebrate it, it’s a perfect opportunity to line your pockets with some extra holiday cash before spending it on everybody else in your life!

Good luck players!
