history.
In addition to it being the first Cup ever for the Washington Capitals, Alex Ovechkin would also become the first Russian captain to ever win the Stanley Cup.
Is tonight the @Capitals' night? June 7 has been kind to D.C. sports in the past:
On this date in 1978, the Washington Bullets (now Wizards) won their first and only NBA Championship.
On this date in 2010, the Washington Nationals drafted Bryce Harper No. 1 overall.

The Vegas Golden Knights won’t go down without a fight though. They’ve been one of the toughest teams in the NHL on home-ice this season and T-Mobile Arena has been one of the loudest buildings during these playoffs. The Golden Knights have also gone 2-0 in Game 5s during the playoffs while the Capitals are 2-1.
Vegas is expected to be the only team to make any lineup changes. David Perron is expected to draw back in after being a healthy scratch for Game 4, replacing Ryan Carpenter on the third line. Will Carrier is also expected to return, taking Ryan Reaves’ spot on the fourth line.
