Stars Sign Seguin to an eight-year extension
The Dallas Stars announced that they have signed Tyler Seguin to an eight-year contract extension worth $78.8 million ($9.85M AAV)—and they set a new bar for how teams announce signings in the process:

Seguin’s new deal includes a full no-trade clause for all eight years. The 26-year-old trails only Alex Ovechkin in goals since joining the Stars five years ago. During that same span, Seguin ranks sixth in the NHL in points-per-game (0.99).

Seguin spent 51.6 percent of his 5v5 time on a line with Jamie Benn and Alexander Radulov and the trio did a lot of damage together. In 633:09 of 5v5 ice-time they posted a 52.34 CorsiFor%, 52.11 ScoringChancesFor% and 63.33 GoalsFor%. They project to play together atop the Stars’ roster this season. According to Corsica Hockey Player Ratings, Seguin grades out as the No.10 centre and their top-line is the No.9 ranked first-line in hockey.
Seguin has not missed a game in two-years and has been one of the most consistent and durable centres in the NHL during his time with the Stars. He has averaged 35 goals and 42 assists (77 points) over the last five seasons and makes for a safe first-round fantasy selection this fall.
His new deal makes him the highest-paid player in Dallas, a hair higher than Benn’s $9.5M AAV deal. It also makes Seguin the eighth highest-paid player in the NHL—behind only Connor McDavid, John Tavares, Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Carey Price, Anze Kopitar and Jack Eichel. (Per NHLNumbers)
