Stars trade Morrow to Pittsburgh

The Dallas Stars captain Brenden Morrow has waived his no-trade clause in order for the Stars to move him to the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The deal between the Stars and Penguins involves Morrow and a third round pick in 2013 in exchange for prospect Joe Morrow and a 2013 fifth round pick.

Dallas selected Morrow with the #25 pick in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. He is in his 13th season in the NHL and he has spent all of them with Dallas. Morrow has scored 243 goals and 285 assists (528 points) in 835 career NHL games. He has five goals and six assists in 29 games this season.

The other Morrow in the trade, Joe was drafted 23rd overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He is a 6-foot-1-inch, 209 lbs. mobile two-way defenseman. Morrow is a strong puck moving D-man who possesses a heavy shot, who has the potential to be a top-4 defenseman in the NHL.

This trade does not have a ton of fantasy impact because Brenden Morrow is passed his years of 30-goal production and will be leaned on for his grit, leadership and playoff experience in Pittsburgh. He has played 78 playoff games and registered 42 points. As for Joe, he will not be fantasy relevant until he makes it to the NHL, but he has the potential to produce once he does get there. He had 64 points in 62 games in his final season in the WHL, and has 15 points in 57 games in the AHL this season.
