The Daily Faceoff Show: Salvador says Elias should be in Hall of Fame

The class from 2020 has finally been inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Jarome Iginla, Marian Hossa, Kevin Lowe, Doug Wilson, Kim St. Pierre, and Ken Holland will walk down the red carpet on Monday night in Toronto after over 500 days of waiting due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nex up, attention will now shift to the impending class of 2022, which will also feature players from the 2021 class that were skipped over so that the 2020 class would be able to have their moment in the sun.

First-time eligible players for the 2022 class include Roberto Luongo, Henrik and Daniel Sedin, and Henrik Zetterberg. Other names in the mix are the usual suspects, such as Alex Mogilny, Daniel Alfredsson and Patrik Elias.

On Monday’s edition of The Daily Faceoff Show, former NHL defender Bryce Salvador noted the comparison between Elias and 2020 inductee Marian Hossa and made the case for why his former New Jersey Devils teammate should wind up in the Hall.

Gregor: “We now look forward to the 2022 class. Who do you think should be going into the Hall of Fame next year?

Salvador: “We actually had this debate on our MSG show on Sunday night when the Devils played against the New York Rangers. One of my partners on the show, Steve Cangelosi, brought up a comparison to Marian Hossa, which is the long-time Devil fan-favorite, Patrik Elias.

When you look at the body of work that Patrik Elias had in his career with the Devils, it’s comparable to Marian Hossa. The Devil side in me would really like to see him get into the Hall of Fame and I’m interested to see how long it’ll take. There are a lot of guys around that 1,000 point that are wondering if they’re going to get in.

Patrik Elias won two Stanley Cups, Marian Hossa had three, they both played over 1,000 games and had more than 1,000 points. So I’m interested to see how long it takes Patrik Elias to get into the Hall of Fame.
