Top Blues prospect Pietrangelo makes the team
UPDATED: Pietrangelo will skate as the 6th defender should the entire blue line prove healthy enough for the season opener. Similar to last year, his potential will remain a tease until he sticks with a club in a more solidified role.
The St. Louis Blues’ top prospect Alex Pietrangelo will start the season with the team for the second straight season. Last year, Hockey’s Future rated him the League’s best skater as he has elite potential. Back in 2004, he was drafted before both Luke Schenn and Tyler Myers which is a pretty decent indicator for his expectations.
As of this writing, both Erik Johnson and Carlo Colaiacovo appear to be injured which should open the door for the young defenseman to both make the team and see some good playing time should they miss the season opener. The team clearly holds big plans for the kid, as stated below.

The moment he’d been waiting has finally come: Alex Pietrangelo has earned a spot on the Blues’ 23-man roster.
Pietrangelo, along with teammate Tyson Strachan, met with General Manager Doug Armstrong and Head Coach Davis Payne on Tuesday, where both players were told they’d be remaining with the Blues to start the 2010-11 season.
The decision ends arguably the most interesting aspect of training camp: the race for the final spots on the team’s blueline.
