“Weeks” for Vanek, Liles, Toskala and Salo Injuries

vanek

We’ve already seen Andrei Markov go down early in the season, then we learned about Johan Franzen and Daniel Sedin going down over the weekend.  Now, you can add a few more injuries that could possible affect your fantasy rosters.  Unfortunately it’s a little too early to tell the extent of the injuries but we’ll keep you updated as more gets uncovered throughout the day.

Thomas Vanek

Lindy Ruff says Vanek will miss “weeks” with an upper body injury sustained in Tuesday’s match against the Red Wings.  Vanek was an important part in the Sabres’ rejuvinated offense, scoring two goals before sustaining the injury.  Hopefully, we can expect to see Clark MacArthur or Jochen Hecht step up and fill the offensive void.  TSN

John-Michael Liles

Liles’ right-shoulder appears to have separated after a hit into the boards from Mikhail Grabovski.  Coach Joe Sacco said tests will reveal more on Wednesday but hinted that it could be “weeks” before Liles returns.  Denver Post

Vesa Toskala

It might be a blessing for the struggling goaltender and you probably aren’t starting him on your fantasy teams right now, anyway.  Coach Ron Wilson said that Toskala was banged up and an MRI would reveal more about the injury.  Joey MacDonald was called up to start for the Leafs in Toskala’s and Gustavsson’s (IR) absence.  Globe and Mail

Sami Salo

Salo is out 4-6 weeks with a sprained MCL in his right knee.  Salo is frequently injured and only has 1 point in 5 games this season.  We don’t recommend saving a non-IR roster spot for Salo for the extent of his injury.  Adjust your rosters accordingly.  TSN

Update: You can add the Blue Jackets Jan Hejda to the list. Out 4-6 weeks with a sprained left knee
