Zach Aston-Reese suffered a broken jaw and concussion from Tom Wilson hit

Washington Capitals’ forward Tom Wilson continues to not make any new friends — especially in Pittsburgh.

The Washington agitator avoided discipline for his high hit in Game 2 on Penguins’ defenceman Brian Dumoulin. Dumoulin went into the league’s concussion protocol after Wilson blindsided him while the Pittsburgh blueliner was bracing for a collision with Ovechkin.

Dumoulin was back in the lineup for Game 3, as the rivalry heated up with one of the chippiest games of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Once again, Wilson was the culprit.

Penguins’ forward Zach Aston-Reese was stickhandling beside the Washington bench in the second period before getting blown up by Wilson. The Pittsburgh rookie was on the ice for several moments before throwing his glove in frustration.

Wilson did not receive a penalty for the hit and it’s hard to tell where the initial point of contact was.

It’s very possible it was a direct shoulder to the head, but it’s also possible it was a shoulder on shoulder collision and it drove up to the head.

Wherever the initial contact was, Pittsburgh coach Mike Sullivan revealed after the game that Aston-Reese suffered a broken jaw and a concussion as a result of the play.

Wilson constantly plays on the edge and it remains to be seen whether he’ll be getting a call from the NHL Department of Player Safety for his latest controversial play.

The Capitals won Game 3 by a 4-3 score and now have a 2-1 series lead over the Penguins.
