In one week’s time, the Vegas Golden Knights went from a commanding 2-0 series lead that they stole on the road, to trailing the Dallas Stars 3-2 and being on the brink of elimination heading into Game 6.

Flashback to August and September 2020 for a second.

The Golden Knights beat the Stars in the Round Robin portion of the strange bubble Stanley Cup Playoffs to secure the higher seed. Then they win the first two rounds and face Dallas in the Western Conference Final.

After the two teams split Games 1 and 2, Dallas took the next three games, all by one goal, to knock off the Golden Knights and advance to the Stanley Cup Final.

Something eerily similar is happening here.

The Stars have won the past three games, each by one goal (outside of an empty netter), and taken full control of this series.

Can Vegas respond and win two straight? Or is this it for the defending Stanley Cup champions?

Tyler Yaremchuk: We finally, in Game 5 of this series, saw a home team get a victory. Tonight, Vegas will be looking to make it back-to-back games… They’ll be looking to force Game 7, they have lost three in a row. We’ve seen Bruce Cassidy do the ‘panic move’, if you want to call it that, jumbling the lines, starting a new goalie… Can Vegas avoid a fourth straight loss in this series?

Frank Seravalli: First off, you need to keep your emotions in check. This is two years in a row in which Alex Pietrangelo, one of their leaders, is caught doing something stupid in a playoff series. Last year, it cost them a game with that slash (on Leon Draisaitl)…. You’ve been to a Stanley Cup… Settle down and play… We’re kind of missing the true staples of a Bruce Cassidy team…

The Dallas Stars have been the way better team in this series, and it’s not close. Can the Vegas Golden Knights win one game and force Game 7? Yes. Will they? My bet would be on Dallas.
