Vernon Fiddler News

The Devils have signed Vernon Fiddler to a one-year deal worth $1.25 million.

Fiddler, 36, is in the twilight of his NHL career, but is coming off of a decent offensive season for a 4th line centre—he had 12 goals and 10 assists (22 points) in 82 games with the Stars and should be expected to be between 20-30 points again in 2016-17 with the Devils.

The Stars have re-signed Vernon Fiddler to a two-year deal worth $2.5 million.

Fiddler rejected a contract extension from the Stars a few weeks ago, but the two sides were able to make it work. Fiddler had six goals and 17 assists (23 points) in 76 games. The veteran forward plays a strong two-way game and won 52.2% of his face-offs. He is a good penalty-killer and is more useful for the Stars than your fantasy squad.

Fiddler (upper body) will be placed on IR retroactive to December 7, so he is eligible to return when he is healthy.

Fiddler will miss his fifth consecutive game tonight. The 33-year-old veteran has a career high of 32 points ('07-'08) and has just eight points in 28 games this season, he is not fantasy relevant.

Stars center Vernon Fiddler will miss at least this week with the upper body injury he suffered in Saturday’s 5-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Fiddler left Saturday’s game in the first period and did not return. “He’s going to be out with an upper body [injury] for at least this week,” said Stars coach Lindy Ruff. “We’ll see where he is at the end of this week.” With Fiddler out, Ruff will have to shuffle his lines. He put Cody Eakin in Fiddler’s spot between Antoine Roussel and Ryan Garbutt during Monday’s practice, a move he made in Saturday’s game as well.

Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said Dowell will give the team an extra center in the lineup in case there are any issues with Vernon Fiddler, who will play tonight but has been dealing with bumps and bruises.

Fiddler will play tonight but there is a chance he doesn't make it through the entire game. The third line center leads all Stars forwards with 33 blocked shots.
