Brian Strait News

The Jets have recalled Brian Strait from Manitoba (AHL).

Strait, 29, has collected five assists in 27 games with Manitoba this season and could make his Jets’ debut on Thursday. Strait has 27 points (6G / 21A) in 182 career NHL games with the Penguins and Islanders.

The Jets have inked Brian Strait to a one-year deal worth $600K.

Strait, 28, served as the Islanders sixth/seventh defenseman for the four years, appearing in 170 games, collecting just six goals and 20 assists (26 points) along the way. He should have a better chance cracking the Jets’ blueline on a more regular basis.

Strait (upper-body) skated for the first time since suffering the injury.

Strait was injured on October 22 in a game vs. Vancouver. The Islanders never provided a definitive timetable for Strait's return so it is hard to gauge how long he will need to be on the ice before returning. His next step is to join his teammates. The Islanders could really use Strait back on the blueline, as they continue to struggle with an inexperienced D-corp.
