Barret Jackman will announce his retirement from the NHL on Tuesday.

Jackman, 35, appeared in 876 career NHL regular season games and another 53 postseason games during his 14-year career. Jackman spent his first 13 seasons with the Blues before playing last year in Nashville. He picked up a career 186 points (29G / 157A) over his career.

Of being a mentor, Jackman said: "You definitely feel like you're part of their development. You take pride in how well they play and things you could pass along, stuff I learned from Al (MacInnis) and 'Prongs.' I'm grateful to carry on the tradition."

No longer a young-stud defenseman, Jackman will turn to a mentorship role as the longest tenured member of the Blues. Last season the savvy veteran posted 13 assists in 60 games as he battled through injuries. His guidance on the ice will help Carlo Colaiacovo, Kevin Shattenkirk and Alex Pietrangelo but not your fantasy hockey team.
