McMillan is expected to make his Canucks debut on Thursday.

The Canucks have claimed Brandon McMillan off of waivers from Arizona.

McMillan, 24, was the 85th overall pick in 2008. He is from nearby Richmond, British Columbia, which is just 30 minutes from Vancouver. He had three points (1G / 2A) in 50 games with the Coyotes this season. He has 35 points (14G / 21A) in 163 career NHL games.

McMillan has 11 goals and 16 assists in 46 games with Portland this season. He has yet to suit up in a game with the Coyotes but has tallied 11 goals and 15 assists in 91 career NHL games with the Anaheim Ducks.

The immediate future is Sunday’s home contest against St. Louis and Brandon McMillan could get the first shot as he jumped up from the fourth line for the final nine minutes of Friday’s 1-0 win over San Jose.

McMillan should get the first crack at the second line with Blake sidelined. Last season, he played in a scoring role quite frequently and scored 10 goals with 11 assists.
