Teemu Selanne News

Selanne (rest) will not play Saturday.

As he has done all season, Ducks head coach Bruce Boudreau will scratch Selanne in tonight's second game of a back-to-back set. The Ducks have a quick turnaround and will play again on Monday, so three games in four days, definitely warrants some rest for the veteran winger.

Selanne has not scored in his last 14 games. In that span, Selanne has just three assists. Since trading Dustin Penner, Kyle Palmieri and Patrick Maroon have played on this line, tonight they will give the 43-year-old a shot with Getz and Perry.

Ducks winger Teemu Selanne will not play against the Nashville Predators on Saturday night in order to get some extra rest ahead of competing in his sixth Winter Olympics.

Selanne did not accompany the team to Nashville on Friday as the club and he agreed earlier this week on him skipping the contest before he heads to Sochi to play for Finland. Selanne has been given a lot of rest this season so it is not surprising to see him get rest right before the Olympics.

Selanne will be a healthy scratch tonight, but will be back in the lineup on Sunday vs. Detroit.

The Ducks continue to scratch Selanne during back-to-back's, this time around they will give him the extra day off and save him for the tail-end. After Sunday, the Ducks are off until Thursday, so this is likely the best idea to keep Selanne fresh. Jakob Silfverberg will enter the lineup.

Selanne (rest) did not make the trip to San Jose and won't play tonight.

As expected Selanne will sit and rest with the Ducks in the second game of a back-to-back. The veteran has struggled this season, he has not recorded a point since October 27 - a span of 12 games. It has been 15 games since he has scored his last goal.

Selanne did not play Saturday because the Ducks were on the tail-end of a back-to-back.

As you may remember head coach Bruce Boudreau announced at the start of the season that he planned to keep Selanne fresh by sitting him during one game of a back-to-back. Expect Selanne to be back in the lineup on Tuesday.

Ducks head coach Bruce Boudreau says that Selanne is a game time decision tonight against the Senators.

Boudreau stated at the start of the season that Selanne will sit the majority of back-to-back situations. Selanne was in the lineup last night vs. Montreal, so there is a good chance that he sits tonight.

Selanne will sit out Saturday night's game against Minnesota as the plan is for the winger to rest in one of the 12 sets on contests on consecutive nights.

That's the risk with relying on a 43-year old winger over the course of a full season. Look for a backup plan either on the Ducks (Emerson Etem or Jakub Silfverberg) if you have a deep bench or another option for the 12 instances where Selanne will be guaranteed to sit.
